2009

2009 was an amazing weather year ending with 6.44" above precip average and ending the year with a blizzard for Christmas.
2009 is in the top10 years for the coolest summers with KCI not recording a 100 degree temp.
July 3 was the 3rd coolest 3 rd on record.
There was nothing 'average' about 2009.
It brings to mind weather I remember from the late 50's through the 70's. In those days I dont' recall many 100 degree days, but I do remember snow on the ground from the middle of December through early March. It was a regular occurance. Through the 80's and 90's and early 2000, that's been forgotten until now.
In the large scope of weather patterns, even a 10 year span means nothing to Mother Nature and the weather patterns. If you pull back and look at a 30 to 50 years, you will find a cycle of patterns. If you check weather history, weather like 2009 occured in 1939, 1959, 1979, 1989 and 1999.
While some believe there is only a 12 month pattern, I belive that may be true, but there is a larger pattern that is in about 20 year increments.
HAPPY NEW YEAR....

CHRISTMAS SNOW

So, how much snow will we get?
As of 1:03 PM-Here's the thoughts
Weather Channel- 5-8 tonight, 2-4 Christmas Day, 1" on Saturday
NWS, KC---------- 3" tonight, 2.5 Christmas Day, 1" on Saturday
GIS,---------------- 6-7 tonight, 3-5 Christmas Day, 1.2 on Saturday
NWS, MDL------- 6-8 tonight, 4-6 Christmas Day, 0-2 Saturday

Just averaging these---
Tonight- 5- 6"
Christmas Day- 3-4"
Saturday- 1"

These suggested storm totals would average 10" by sometime Saturday.

Since these are seemingly always over advertised, I believe a storm total of an average of 4-8" is most likely.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the NWS issues a BLIZZARD WARNING around 4 PM or at least a HEAVY SNOW WARNING.

My concern is if they really felt this is going to happen in the next 12 hours or so and given how many people are traveling, the should have issued this by now.
